TRIBE Governance

The Tribe Triathlon Club is an incorporated club and is governed by its constitution and the Associations Incorporation Act 1985. Follow the links below to find out more:

The Constitution of the Tribe Triathlon Club Inc.

Associations Incorporation Act 1985

The Club's committee regularly reviews the latest guidelines available from Triathlon Australia, Triathlon SA and other bodies such as the Sports Medicine Association of Australia and the Office for Recreation and Sport. The Club develops its policies from these guidelines to protect members, employees, volunteers and spectators at our events.

These policies are not binding, but the Club reminds all parties that they must act responsibly. We encourage a common sense approach and consideration of the comfort and well-being of all individuals including participants and officials.

Anti-doping Policy:
The Tribe Triathlon Club condemns the use of prohibited substances and methods in sport.

This Anti-Doping Policy binds all members, athletes and support personnel as a condition of their participation and/or involvement in the sport of triathlon. The use of prohibited substances, such as performance enhancing drugs, and prohibited methods, is contrary to the ethics of sport and is potentially harmful to the health of athletes. It is the Club's policy that any issues of such are to be dealt with according to the protocols laid down by Triathlon Australia's Anti-Doping Policy

The only legitimate use of prohibited substances and methods is under the supervision of a physician for a clinically justified purpose. The Club requires all athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, spectators and members to declare any legitimately used medication prior to an event.

 Anti-harassment Policy:
The Tribe Triathlon Club is committed to providing a work and sport environment free from harassment, discrimination and abuse, and these actions will not be tolerated.

The Club will not tolerate discrimination or harassment with respect to age, abuse, child abuse, disability, gender, race, sexuality, religion or vilification. It is the Club's policy that any issues of such are to be dealt with according to the protocols laid down by the Australian Sports Commission. The Club's committee comprises of model individuals with positive and non-harassing behaviour and we encourage all officials, coaches, volunteers, spectators and members to follow their good examples. Complaints can be made formally or informally to any member of the Club's committee, in confidence, and the matter will be dealt with in a timely manner.

Cycling Safety Policy:
The position of the Tribe Triathlon Club is that during training and racing on open roads the Australian Road Rules will be obeyed.

The Club offers information from the SA Government on Cycling Road Rules where you will find useful information on, and links to, cycling and the law. The Club also adopts the guidelines outlined in a brochure jointly developed by Triathlon Victoria. Read the Code of Conduct for Cyclists. Juniors are required to be chaperoned during training and racing on the road until they can prove themselves competent and road-smart to a committee member. Parents/Guardians will be involved in the decision to allow a junior to ride autonomously.

Smoke Free Policy:
The position of the Tribe Triathlon Club is that sport and active recreation participants, employees, volunteers and spectators have the right to a clean, safe, smoke-free environment.

Passive and non-passive smoking presents significant health risks for both children and adults and is contrary to a healthy lifestyle. The Club is supportive of controls over smoking and smoke-free workplaces, venues and environments. The Club is committed to ensuring all venues used for training and racing are smoke-free and encourages all public sporting and active recreation venues and environments to adopt a smoke-free policy as set out by the Office for Recreation and Sport. The Club also supports the position of the Australian Medical Association, which calls for smokers to be responsible for disposing of their butts and packaging in a way that does not impact negatively on the environment.

Sun Smart Policy:
The position of the Tribe Triathlon Club is that all sport and active recreation participants, employees, volunteers and spectators are encouraged to wear shirts and hats and to use sunscreen and goggles/glasses before, during and after events.

Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world. Two in every three Australians develops skin cancer at some time during their life. Most skin cancers can be prevented if you protect your skin from the sun. The Club encourages everyone to slip on some protective clothing such as long sleeve shirts, slop on some SPF 30+ sunscreen, slap on a broad brimmed hat, slide on some EPF 10+ goggles or sunglasses and seek some shade when training racing, participating and volunteering at events. The Club holds swim training indoors at the Woodside Army Barracks all year round and our cycling and running training sessions and club races are held in the cool of the evening or early morning.  The Club provides sunscreen at club races for all to use. For more information on being smart in the sun visit the Cancer Council of SA.

Weather Policy:
The position of the Tribe Triathlon Club is that sport and active recreation participants, employees, volunteers and spectators have the right to a safe sporting environment free from extreme weather conditions.

Most people understand the importance of physical activity for good health but it is just as important that when levels of activity rise the risk of harm is minimised. The Club holds events in the early morning or late afternoon/evening to avoid the hottest parts of the day. When the ambient temperature during an event is 31.0°C to 36.0°C the Club's race director and/or committee members will contemplate modifying, postponing, rerouting or cancelling events. Athletes must have one 750ml biddon of water on their bike during these conditions. When the ambient temperature exceeds 36.0°C one hour before the event, it will be cancelled. Where possible a wet bulb thermometer will be used to test ambient temperature and relative humidity. Additionally, in other inclement weather such as cold, hail, rain, snow, surf, toxic water and windy conditions the Club will contemplate modifying, postponing, rerouting or cancelling events. Wetsuits will not be allowed in water temperatures approaching 24°C. The Club adopts the guidelines outlined in the Sports Medicine Association's Hot Weather Guidelines and Triathlon SA's Hot Weather Guidelines for the safety of our members, volunteers and spectators.
